The bad ones answer from a fixed script and punt to "email us" the moment things get real. The good ones read your actual content — docs, FAQs, past tickets — and answer from there. You don't need a coding degree to build the good kind anymore.
Hour 1 — Collect. Dump your FAQs, help docs, and product pages into one folder. Clean the obvious staleness. This is the bot's brain; garbage in, garbage out.
Hour 2 — Connect. Use a no-code agent builder (Zapier Agents, Make, or a hosted RAG tool). Point it at the folder, set it to answer only from that source, and forbid it from inventing. The "only from source" rule is what stops the hallucinations.
Hour 3 — Constrain. Give it a personality: friendly, brief, always ends with "want me to pull up the link?" Cap answers at three sentences. A chatty bot loses trust fast.
Hour 4 — Embed & test. Drop the snippet on your site. Ask it the ten questions you get most. Fix the three it gets wrong by adding the answer to the source folder.
Never let it answer outside its source. If it doesn't know, it should say "I'll get a human" — not guess. A bot that admits limits builds more trust than one that confidently lies.
